Income Protection
Income protection can provide a monthly income if you are diagnosed with an illness that may not be “critical” but is severe enough to stop you going to work for a lengthy period.
If you have an accident or fall ill and cannot work for a prolonged period, the sudden loss of income could be devastating for you and/or your family. That’s where income protection comes in. It pays out a monthly income if you are unable to work because of illness or injury.
Income protection policies are normally long term and designed to replace income to pay your monthly bills such as the mortgage, child care costs, utilities etc. but they can be taken out for shorter periods e.g 2 years. As long as you maintain the premiums then the policy cannot be cancelled no matter how many times you claim during the period.
Have you asked yourself:
- If you were to become seriously ill tomorrow, what impact do you think this would have on you and your family? What would your priorities be?
- How long would your finances last in these circumstances? The bills don’t stop arriving!
- How long would your employer continue to pay you and how long would it be before you had to fall back on state benefits? Would State benefits alone meet your needs?
